Creating & Managing Discount/Coupon Codes

Updated on 07th June 2023 in Marketing

Discount codes can be a powerful marketing tool for your online store. Whether you're looking to boost sales, clear inventory, or reward loyal customers, discount codes can help you achieve your goals. This guide will walk you through how to create and manage discount codes in Shoprocket.

Step 1: Navigate to the Discounts Section

First, log into your Shoprocket dashboard and navigate to the "Marketing" section, then "Discount Codes". This is where you'll create and manage all of your discount codes.

Step 2: Define Your Discount Code

Click the "Create Discount Code" button. You'll now need to fill in several fields to define the specifics of your discount code.

Here's what each field means:

  • Discount Code: This is the actual code that can be applied in the cart, or via URL parameter. This can be a custom code specified by you, or Shoprocket can auto-generate one for you.
  • Usage Limit: This defines the number of times a coupon code can be used before it expires.
  • Discount Type: Here, you can choose whether your discount is a flat rate (e.g., $10 off), a percentage off (e.g., 10% off), or free shipping.
  • Discount Value: This is the value of your discount, which can be either a fixed amount (for flat rate discounts) or a percentage (for percentage discounts).
  • Description: This is a brief description of the discount that will be visible in the cart and order details.
  • Discount Applies To: Here, you can specify whether your discount applies to all orders over a certain grand total, all orders over a certain subtotal, specific products, or specific categories.
  • Minimum Order Value: This is the minimum order amount required for the discount to be valid.
  • Start Date and End Date: You can also set a start and end date for the discount. This can be useful for limited-time sales or seasonal promotions.
  • Limit to One Use Per Customer: If you check this option, the discount can only be used once per customer. The usage is checked against the customer's provided email address.

Step 3: Save Your Discount Code

Once you've filled out all the required fields and you're happy with your discount code, click "Save". Your discount code will now be live and can be used by customers.

You can apply discount codes to carts automatically via custom JS (Shoprocket.applyCoupon("coupon-code")), or simply appending it to the URL (https://your-site.com/#!/coupon=coupon-code).

That's it! With these steps, you can create and manage effective discount codes for your online store. Remember, the key to a successful discount code is to make it attractive to customers while ensuring it aligns with your business goals. Happy selling!
